For the lastt 15 years, Heidi and I have raised part of our salary as college pastor for three key reasons:

  1. It helps to keep us dependent on the Lord's provision and acts as an example to students for giving, serving, and even going into ministry or missions.  God is our provider!
  2. It also allows smaller churches, with limited resources, to have staff focused on reaching and developing students for mission.  Many churches in small college towns do not have the resources for full time staff, but can have "skin in the game" by providing a portion of the salary need.  This keeps us and the ministry grounded in the local church which is critical to students staying in the church long term.
  3. It keeps us connected to wide base of supporters for prayer and financial support.  We love this.  People literally across the globe are helping to engage, equip, and empower students as leaders on campus, leaders in the church, and future pastors, church planters, and missionaries.

For these reasons we will continue to raise support in our role at promoteHumility and as intersect.college.  We want to keep our services and support free for students and affordable for churches and organizations.  We also want to set an example of dependence on the Lord and interdependent community with believers who also love college students and want to see them following Jesus with their whole lives.
